HISTORY

El Amparo Habitat Bank

The El Amparo Habitat Bank emerges from initiatives aimed at preserving areas of forest cover, shrublands, and herbaceous fields characteristic of the Colombian Orinoquía within the Helobioma Altillanura and Peinobioma Altillanura biomes. These natural and semi-natural covers are maintained in a conserved state on the property, offering significant extensions and high potential for expansion, which would enhance the structural connectivity of natural habitats in the area.

It is important to highlight that the property is also part of the El Amparo Natural Reserve, where its owners have maintained a commitment to preservation for over 25 years. As a result, no livestock or agricultural activities are conducted. Instead, initiatives such as reforestation, protection of forested areas, elimination of burning, hunting control, and management strategies to support and finance conservation goals have been adopted and promoted. Additionally, the El Amparo Reserve is involved in initiatives to create a biological corridor for the Puma (Puma concolor) and, more broadly, for the biodiversity within the 39,000 hectares of its area of influence.
