What are Habitat Banks?

Habitat Banks are an innovative model for environmental investments and compensations, successfully tested in other countries for ecosystem conservation. These areas, whether private or public, are managed for their high natural value. Learn more about them here.

HISTORY

Aguadulce Habitat Bank

The Habitat Bank comprises two plots, El Trópico and Aguadulce, which were formerly agricultural estates owned by the family of the current owners. While remnants of the old coffee crops can still be seen, the family decided to restore these lands and began acquiring neighboring plots to expand the environmental conservation project. The reserve focuses on preserving the tropical dry forest, one of the most threatened ecosystems in Colombia, as well as the premontane wet forest, which are both impacted by agricultural expansion, deforestation, and climate change. As part of their commitment to the community, the family recently donated land to the local school. Furthermore, the reserve is in the process of being registered as a Natural Reserve of Civil Society with Resnatur, which will further strengthen its conservation and ecological restoration efforts.
