Francisco grew up in the countryside, on farms where his father worked as a manager. Although city life called to him for a while, the forest was always his destiny. "I wanted to be outdoors, to escape confinement. Here, I have found both peace and purpose," he says with a calm smile.

His daily routine revolves around caring for the nursery, collecting native seeds, and patrolling the forest to ensure the protection of the cloud forest. Located in the foothills of the Western Cordillera, within the municipalities of Támesis and Jardín (Antioquia), this ecosystem requires constant care. Armed with a machete and sturdy boots, Francisco clears trails and rescues native species such as oaks and magnolias. But he is never truly alone, a pair of horses and an endless array of birds accompany him in the deep silence of the forest. "Here, I’ve learned to talk to myself and to the horses. I’ve even started playing the harmonica and learning guitar."

The forest is both his refuge and his teacher. He speaks fondly of the city dwellers who visit El Globo, often awkward on the trails but in awe of the forest’s vastness. "They arrive burdened with noise, but here, they rediscover silence and fresh air. It’s as if the forest reminds them of something they had long forgotten."

His bravery is not just about enduring solitude but about fighting every day to preserve an ecosystem that relies on human hands for survival. "A forest is like a house—if no one takes care of it, it falls apart. And I am here to make sure that doesn’t happen."

When describing his days at El Globo Habitat Bank, Francisco speaks of misty mornings, sipping coffee on the hammock deck, listening to owls, and feeling the wind that carries an indescribable sense of peace. "Here, I feel alive," he says, his words echoing through the forest that surrounds him.
