Terrasos Officially Launches the Aguadulce – Sumapaz River Habitat Bank: A Conservation Model with Measurable Impact and Blockchain Traceability
Terrasos celebrated the official launch of the Aguadulce – Sumapaz River Habitat Bank during the webinar “Aguadulce: Starting Point for Conservation.” The event introduced a new approach to protecting biodiversity in Colombia, bringing together leaders from the environmental, business, and community sectors to mark a milestone in the development of the Voluntary Biodiversity Units (Tebu®) market in Latin America.
Located in Nilo, Cundinamarca, the Aguadulce – Sumapaz River Habitat Bank protects over 124 hectares of strategic ecosystems such as tropical dry forest and premontane humid forest. The project has been verified by the auditing firm KPMG under a rigorous technical standard and is registered on the blockchain platform Regen Network, ensuring transparency and traceability for environmental investors.
During the event, Eduardo del Valle, the bank’s operator and regional project leader, emphasized, “The bank is not just a protected area—it’s a living ecosystem where we are restoring trust between communities, companies, and nature. This land used to be coffee farms, and today we are working to recover them, bring coffee back to the table, and enjoy it in a conserved ecosystem. Aguadulce proves that responsible, measurable, and purposeful conservation is possible.”
Carolina Pacheco from the construction company Amarilo shared the private sector’s perspective, saying, “We always aim to pursue innovative compensation strategies, and we found a mechanism that combines both mandatory and voluntary offsets through a partner like Terrasos, which brings technical and scientific expertise. Together, we developed a biodiversity policy that we’re implementing in the short, medium, and long term at Amarilo.”
She also emphasized that, “Investing in Aguadulce means aligning our sustainability policy with real impact. It’s not just about meeting an environmental target—it’s about actively participating in the country’s regeneration.”
The event also introduced Terrasos’ new project portal—a digital platform that allows users to learn about and purchase Tebu® units securely and transparently, offering full traceability from registration to credit retirement.
Mariana Sarmiento, CEO of Terrasos, remarked, “This is a major milestone we’re sharing today, as the project brings to life a vision we had—to truly enable high-impact private investment in conservation, backed by transparency and innovation".
She also highlighted that, “Having a Habitat Bank of this scale so close to Bogotá proves that it is indeed possible to develop natural infrastructure with high ecological and social impact, even in transformed areas.”
This launch marks a decisive step toward a results-based conservation model with active corporate participation, offering ecological, social, and strategic benefits for companies seeking high-standard ESG solutions. Today, there's a tangible, measurable, and transparent commitment where businesses can play a real role in creating positive change—a pathway to a Nature Positive future.
