Banco de Occidente and Terrasos promote investment in biodiversity through the use of credit cards.

February 2026

At Terrasos, we believe that biodiversity is protected when it enters the real economy. That is why we are pleased to announce a partnership that moves in that direction.

Together with Banco de Occidente, we are launching an initiative that transforms everyday credit card use into a direct and verifiable investment in biodiversity. This partnership demonstrates that the financial system can be a serious, transparent, and long-term ally for conservation.

Through this initiative, the bank will allocate 1% of the average daily turnover from purchases made with the Credencial Clásica Mastercard or Visa credit card during the campaign period to the acquisition of Tebu® (Terrasos Biodiversity Units). Each Tebu® represents biodiversity conserved and restored with technical rigor, legal backing, and complete traceability.

Investing in biodiversity, with concrete results

The resources mobilized will be channeled to the Cloud Forest El Globo Habitat Bank, a project that since 2021 has been protecting one of the most strategic and threatened ecosystems in the country. Thanks to this habitat bank, the conservation of 340 hectares of cloud forest, six water sources, and more than 550 species of flora and fauna, including 14 threatened and 37 endemic species, is guaranteed for 30 years.

When the financial system connects with nature

For us, this alliance represents something deeper: the possibility of closing part of the financing gap that conservation faces today, integrating everyday financial mechanisms with verifiable environmental impacts.

Tebu®, developed by Terrasos, represents 10 square meters of ecosystems conserved and restored over 30 years. Its issuance has been independently verified by KPMG and its traceability is managed using blockchain technology, which prevents double counting and allows each unit to be traced to the specific property being conserved, with the support of specialized platforms such as Biotrust and Regen Network.

“In territories like this, biodiversity is not an abstract concept: it is the forest that regulates water, the habitat of endangered species, and the basis of the well-being of local communities and economies. This alliance demonstrates that it is possible to channel private resources into conservation in a serious, verifiable way with real impact,”

Mariana Sarmiento, CEO of Terrasos.

An open invitation

We believe this model can scale up. That more companies, more sectors, and more actors in the financial system can join mechanisms that connect daily decisions with the effective protection of biodiversity.

Nature does not need speeches. It needs well-structured investments with a long-term vision.

Alliances like this one confirm that we are on the right track.
