An Alliance for Education and Climate Action that Protects the Cloud Forest in Antioquia
• Cosmo Schools and Terrasos strengthen their commitment to sustainability through an alliance to protect 2,220 m² of the Bosque de Niebla (Cloud Forest) in El Globo, Támesis, Antioquia.
• The project will enhance education on sustainability with awareness programs for teachers, students, and families, integrating biodiversity into daily life.
• The Cosmo Schools educational community will play a key role in this initiative, actively participating in a collaborative financing model that will amplify its environmental and social impact.
• Over the next 30 years, this effort will contribute to the conservation of six water springs and the protection of 222 plant species, 37 mammal species, 236 bird species, 39 butterfly species, three species of bees and wasps, and six other insect species, including 14 threatened species and 37 endemic species.
Antioquia, March 25, 2025. With the commitment to strengthen environmental education in the classroom, Cosmo Schools, an innovative educational network of the Antioquia Family Compensation Fund (COMFAMA), and Terrasos, a leading environmental investment company, have joined forces to create a learning model where sustainability and care for life are central to the formation of future generations. This alliance not only strengthens the work that Cosmo Schools has already been developing in terms of environmental awareness but also amplifies its impact by actively involving the educational community in biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
As the first step in this partnership, Cosmo Schools has acquired 222 Tebu®, guaranteeing the conservation of 2,220 m² in the Bosque de Niebla Habitat Bank in El Globo, located in the Western Mountain Range at the borders of Támesis and Jardín (Antioquia). This ecological space plays a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and represents the first phase of a project that will continue with the active participation of the educational community.
This alliance aims to become a benchmark for the educational sector, demonstrating that schools are key spaces for contributing to sustainability today. Through education, it is possible to transform our relationship with the planet, promoting the care of biodiversity and the preservation of life as fundamental pillars in the learning of each child, adolescent, and young adult. Rather than simply mitigating environmental impact, this project seeks to transform how we learn to inhabit the world, fostering a culture of regeneration and care.
Melissa Álvarez, Director of Cosmo Schools, stated: "At our institution, we believe that education must go beyond the classroom and connect our students with their surroundings. That’s why we say our schools are centers of experiences and thinking. This alliance with Terrasos reflects our commitment to integrating sustainability as a core element in each student's learning journey. It is also an opportunity for our entire educational community to actively participate in biodiversity conservation, because we know and recognize that a culture of regeneration requires everyone to act in the present ".
In this initial phase, a collaborative financing model will be implemented, allowing families, teachers, and students to actively participate in the project, contributing voluntary resources and joining educational spaces that strengthen a culture of sustainability and care. Through this initiative, Cosmo Schools seeks to engage its entire community in a process of awareness and concrete action for planet protection.
Mariana Sarmiento, CEO of Terrasos, commented: "This project is a clear example of how educational institutions can be agents of change in the fight against climate change. Through our alliance with Cosmo Schools, we are demonstrating that sustainability is not only a corporate responsibility, but also an opportunity to educate future generations about the importance of biodiversity conservation ".
Three Key Pillars
Cosmo Schools' approach is grounded in three key pillars that ensure the long-term impact of the project:
1. Environmental Education: Awareness and training will be offered to teachers, administrative staff, families, and students on the importance of biodiversity, promoting the adoption of sustainable practices both inside and outside the classroom.
2. Collective Commitment: Collaborative financing will play a crucial role by involving the educational community through voluntary contributions, creating a sense of ownership and shared responsibility.
3. Tangible Impact: Over the next 30 years, the alliance will contribute to the restoration and protection of key ecosystems, ensuring long-lasting environmental and social benefits that will enrich both the environment and future generations.
Cosmo Schools, with its innovative and multidisciplinary approach, is now a leader in educational transformation in Colombia. Its model guides students in the pursuit of their purpose and potential through experiences that connect them with art, nature, science, body, English, and technology. This partnership with Terrasos strengthens its commitment to integrating sustainability and care for life as a transversal axis in its educational mission, promoting not only academic excellence but also values of sustainability, empathy, and action to foster a culture of regeneration and active planetary care.
